Synopsis: “My folks were English… we were to poor to be British”

“I was able to find my actual birth certificate, but it took 3 guys to help me get it. Stone tablets are heavy.”

“I used to struggle to make ends meet. I wouldn’t have had anything to eat if it wasn’t for the stuff the audience threw at me.”

“If golfing is relaxing…you’re not playing it right.”

“I’m really thrilled tonight, because they requested me to keep appearing before military audiences…What I didn’t like about it…The request came from the civilian audiences.”

“Paramount doesn’t mind me doing television shows. In fact, they insist on it. I think that’s a pretty sneaky way to cripple a new medium.”

“You’ll like this book (Have Tux, Will Travel). It starts out by telling all my good points, all my achievements, and gives the entire history of my educations. The Second page is good, too.”

“I love the way he (Elvis) sings, but if he ever gets rid of those hiccups, he’s out of the business.”

“First it was the ‘Crickets’, now the ‘Beatles.’ I saw a spider this morning and was afraid to step on it… he might be a star.”

“Onassis is a very handsome man but he’s only five foot four… twelve foot eight when he’s standing on his money.”

“Ford is very down to earth. He’s been president for nearly two months now, and he still swims in the White House pool. Not once has he tried to walk across it.”

“I was in school the last time Halley’s Comet appeared and I remember a test we had. It said ‘A Comet is a star with a tail. Name on famous one.’ I wrote, ‘Rin Tin Tin.’”

“No, I do the same things I did when I was fifty-five. I just take a nap after each one now.”

“That writer who once said, ‘Bob, if you had your life to live over again, you wouldn’t have time,’ may have had it right, but at almost one hundred I’d like to give it a try. It’s been a hell of a ride.”

All quotes in the synopsis come from the book, “My Life in Jokes” which was written by Bob in his last few years.

What the Press would say:

Everyone knows who Bob Hope is. He’s probably the most recognizable American comedian of all time and everybody can find something they love about him. Be it his wit or his charm, everybody loves Bob. What I loved about the film “My Life in Jokes” was it really was Bob’s life in jokes. Kelsey Grammer plays the infamous comic in the film and does a fantastic job. You know Grammer from Fraiser for which he won 3 Emmy awards. All I have to say is look out Oscar because Grammer definitely deserves every bit of praise he is getting from critics like me who adored this movie. The directing team behind such films as “American Splendor” and “The Nanny Diaries” do a fantastic job with telling Hope’s life and really bring a strong creative vision to the picture. Their writing is just as good as their directing and it is absolutely hilarious because you can sit back and relax and here fantastic dialogue a voice that really sounds like Bob himself, and a feel that is just breath taking. “My Life in Jokes” is hands down the best film of the year and really pays tribute to the great Bob Hope in a extraordinary way.
